IN THE NEWS: CHILDREN KILLED BY DUI – THE WRONGEST OF WRONGFUL DEATHS
Please, not again….it’s been less than one month since, in our Ramey & Hailey Law blog, we reported on four tragic bicycle injuries and fatalities in our city, explaining that with fewer cars on the road (because of the pandemic) many drivers feel safe increasing their speed and driving without the same level of caution as normal.
As personal injury attorneys dealing in auto accident cases for more than forty years,we can share with you the fact that, while catastrophic and permanent loss may result from equipment error, all too often the real cause is lack of caution on the part of drivers.
And, the most dangerous form of lack of caution? Driving under the influence.
One of the newest headlines reads: 1 child dead, 3 others injured in DUI crash on Indy’s south side. Four children ranging in age from I to 16 years old, the Indianapolis Star reported, needed to be rushed to a hospital (the 8 year old subsequently died). The drivers of both cars had previous records of driving while intoxicated.
If children injured and killed by intoxicated drivers is the “wrongest of wrongful deaths”, the saddest of the sad tasks our attorneys at Ramey & Hailey perform is gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to help prepare personal injury cases on behalf of child victims. No insurance, no settlement can ever compensate for the injury to or the loss of a child. We are there to help make your voice heard.
