Richard Hailey Interviewed On Racial Unrest
In response to the disturbing images of social unrest in our country, Fred Schultz, president of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association, interviewed minority members of the association to learn about their experiences of being black in America. “These conversations moved me,” Schultz revealed, and, in his desire “to do something, anything, that might make a difference”, he asked Rich Hailey of Ramey & Hailey Law, along with two other attorneys, to participate in a video discussion that would challenge viewers to have their own conversations about race and social equity. https://indianatriallawyers.org/socialequity
“The Indiana Trial Lawyers Association urges its members to use their voices, their practices, and their expertise of the legal system to fight against racism, discrimination, and injustice in any form, in any venue. Our mission is to defend and represent the rights of all people,” Schultz emphasized.
Despite having experienced racial prejudice over the course of his life, Hailey says he views the future of race relations going forward in a very optimistic light. People are becoming more aware of structural diversities in the community, he observes. “We are at the next corner”, Hailey thinks, “and people no longer seem so afraid of what’s around that corner”

Academy students shine with achieve 3000, thanks to Ramey & Hailey gift
When Richard Hailey and law partner Mary Beth Ramey funded the Achieve 3000® cloud-based literacy program as their gift to the Andrew J. Brown Academy students, they did so out of the belief that the ability to read, comprehend, apply, and communicate information would be the key to young scholars’ future success.
And, based on recently released Lexile® scores, those scholars have embarked on that success track early on. (Lexile measures are one of the most-researched reading measures available today, with more than half of the country’s K–12 students — that’s over 35 million U.S. students from all 50 states — receiving Lexile measures every year.)
After implementing the Achieve 3000® program, the Andrew J. Brown Academy has increased its Lexile scores by an average of 63 Lexile over the course of just one year, equivalent to an entire grade level! The third grade saw a gain of 97 Lexile, the fifth grade a gain of 85 Lexile.
Way to go, Andrew J. Brown Academicians!

Ramey & Hailey – a forward look at the advanced deposition college
As Richard Hailey prepares to once again serve on the faculty of the American Association for Justice/Education’s annual Deposition College in January, he knows this is no same-old, same-old set of Continuing Legal Education courses. The program has been designed to provide an in-depth, cutting edge approach.
For example, advances in neuroscience are now being applied to testimony in the courtroom, and ”neurolaw” is one of several new technologies to be covered in this year’s curriculum, along with decision-making science, and the role of storytelling.
Both Mary Beth Ramey and Richard Hailey have been involved with the Deposition College since its inception. Hailey is looking forward to lecturing at a number of the courses and to serving as a mentor to young lawyers at the daily individualized case study workshop sessions.
The Advanced Depositions College will take place at the Le Meridian Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana, from Friday January 17-20
